Women's Basketball Mounts Comeback on Road Against Lincoln Saturday

LINCOLN, Ill. -- The Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team was able to bounce back from a slow start against Lincoln to defeat the Lynx, 85-73, at the Lincoln Center Saturday. Karli Miller came up one rebound and an assist away from a triple-double as the sophomore scored 20 points, which led all scorers, nine rebounds and nine assists.

GAME RECAP
Lincoln scored the first two baskets of the contest before Samantha Martin bounced back and made a bucket.  Sarah Martin hit a basket to make it 7-6 in favor of the Lynx.

LC scored 11 unanswered points to pull ahead 18-6. Michaela Schmidt and Tiara Jackson made back-to-back layups to close out the first quarter with the Lynx leading 18-10. 

Sarah Martin and Jackson made back-to-back baskets to cut it to a four-point deficit (18-14). The Lynx responded with four points of their own to build up a 22-14 lead. 

Katelyn Halfacre made a basket to cut it back down to six. After Lincoln responded right away, Lauren Smolen looked to get the RedHawks back in the game after converting a three-point play. 

Lincoln went into the break leading 32-25. 

The second half was started by a three-pointer by Schmidt and a layup by Samantha Martin to make it 32-30 Lincoln. LC made a pair of free throws then Halfacre nailed a three-pointer to keep it close. 

The Lynx got the basket right back then Halfacre made her second three-pointer in the last minute off the pass from Miller. 

Lincoln closed out the third quarter with a three-pointer. The Lynx led 52-46 at the end of the third quarter.

Sarah Martin converted a three-point play to start to fourth quarter. Lincoln responded with back-to-back baskets to extend back out to six points. 

Jackson responded right back with an and-one. Halfacre gave the RedHawks a 62-61 lead after receiving the pass from Miller for three.

Miller knocked down some clutch free throws late in the game to keep it close. Both teams were tied at 68-all going into overtime to force free basketball. 

Lincoln split a pair of free throws to start overtime then IU Northwest scored nine points in a row capped off by back-to-back baskets by Sarah Martin to make it 77-69 with two and a half minutes left. 

IU Northwest made clutch free throws down the stretch to seal the game as the RedHawks held onto a sizeable lead. IUN ending up winning the game 85-73.

IU Northwest will be back in action Monday, February 7 as the RedHawks travel to Governors State with a game against the Jaguars starting at 5 p.m. CT.
