Women's Basketball Bounces Back and Defeats Judson Saturday

ELGIN, Ill. -- The Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team defeated Judson, 45-34, at the Lindner Fitness Center Saturday.

GAME RECAP
Lauren Smolen scored the first six points of the game for IU Northwest to give them a 6-2 lead. Judson got back in the game after making back-to-back baskets to make it 8-6 in favor of the RedHawks. 

Madison Wirey hit a three-pointer to stop the short Judson run to extend the lead to 11-6. The Eagles closed out the first quarter after scoring four straight points to make it 11-10.

Michaela Schmidt started the scoring in the second quarter with a three-pointer which made it 14-10. Judson made a basket to cut it to 18-12 IUN. 

IU Northwest scored 10 points in a row capped off by a layup by Karli Miller to make it 28-12. The Eagles hit a pair of free throws towards the end of the half as the RedHawks led 28-14 at the break.

Judson started the second half with a basket. Samantha Martin and Schmidt recorded baskets in the third quarter to extend the IU Northwest lead out to 18 (35-17). 

The RedHawks had back-to-back baskets by Schmidt early in the fourth quarter for a 41-23 lead. Moments later, Meghan Long made it 43-25 with 3:46 left in the game.

Judson looked to make a comeback the rest of the way as the Eagles went on a 9-2 run but IU Northwest was able to hang on to win 45-34.

UP NEXT
IU Northwest will be back in action Wednesday, January 12 as the RedHawks travel to Chicago, Illinois to take on the Roosevelt Lakers starting at 5:30 p.m. CT for a rematch from their previous matchup back on November 10, 2021.
