Women's Basketball Picks up Road Victory Against Holy Cross Saturday

NORTE DAME, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team defeated Holy Cross College, 75-55, at the Pfeil Center, Saturday. Tiara Jackson recorded a double-double (10 points, 14 rebounds) and four other players reached double figures led by Sarah Martin, who had 19 points.

GAME RECAP
Karli Miller started the game with a three-point play to start the scoring. Holy Cross responded by making back-to-back baskets by Jayda Miller. 

Sarah Martin hit a three-pointer to put IU Northwest back ahead. Moments later, the RedHawks capped off a 11-0 run after Sarah Martin hit back-to-back baskets to make it 13-4. 

Lauren Smolen and Katelyn Halfacre hit baskets towards the end of the first quarter. The RedHawks led 26-12 at the end of the first quarter. 

Tiara Jackson scored five out of the first seven points of the second quarter to put IU Northwest ahead 33-18 with 7:35 left before half.  Samantha Martin made the final basket of the first half for the RedHawks as Holy Cross pulled closer with IU Northwest leading 39-27 at the break.

Sarah Martin started the second half with a basket. Holy Cross responded with nine unanswered points to pull within five (41-36). 

Miller responded with a basket which sparked a run for IU Northwest. Halfacre hit back-to-back three-pointers to put the RedHawks ahead 57-36 with 1:53 left in the third quarter. 

Holy Cross College started the fourth quarter with a three-pointer to make it 60-39 IU Northwest. The Saints made a pair of free throws then both Martin sisters made baskets to extend it out to 64-44. 

The Saints responded with seven straight points to pull within 13 (64-51). Halfacre hit a three-pointer and Schmidt made a bucket to make it 70-51 with 3:20 left in the game. 

HCC bounced back with a basket then IU Northwest ended the game with a basket by Jackson and a three-pointer by Halfacre. The RedHawks came out with the victory 75-55.

UP NEXT
IU Northwest will be back in action Wednesday, February 2 as the RedHawks travel to Governors State University to take on the Jaguars starting at 5 p.m. CT.
