Women's Basketball Defeats Lincoln Using Balanced Effort Monday

GARY, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team had four players reach double figures including Michaela Schmidt, who recorded her four double-double of the season as the RedHawks won their third straight Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference game in a row, defeating Lincoln College, 81-55, at the Savannah Center Monday.

GAME RECAP
IU Northwest bounced out to an early 8-2 advantage after Sarah Martin and Tiara Jackson made back-to-back layups. Lincoln looked to respond but the RedHawks answered right back after Michaela Schmidt had a layup then Sarah made a three-pointer to make it 19-7 IUN.

The RedHawks started the second quarter on a 6-0 run after baskets by JacksonAlyna Santiago and Lauren Smolen expanded the lead to 30-11. Lincoln went on a 9-3 run in the next four minutes to pull within 13 (33-20).

IUN was able to have the response right back closing out the half on a 8-0 run after Jackson made a pair of buckets, Samantha Martin and Katelyn Halfacre made baskets. The RedHawks went into the break ahead 41-20.

In the early stages of the second half, Jackson converted a huge and-one to make it 46-22. Later in the quarter, Karli Miller also converted on an and-one to make it 57-29 RedHawks with 2:05 left in the third. 

Both teams were even in the fourth quarter, both scoring 22 points each. Smolen and Meghan Long had big fourth quarters each getting key buckets down the stretch.

IU Northwest did not give up their 26-point lead. The RedHawks ended up winning the contest 81-55.

IU Northwest will be back in action Wednesday, December 1 as the RedHawks host CCAC leader St. Francis (Ill.), who are currently receiving votes in the latest NAIA Coaches Poll, at the Savannah Center, starting at 5:30 p.m. CT.
