IU Northwest Women's Basketball Bounces Back and Defeats TIU Monday

GARY, Ind. – The Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team bounced back in a huge way as the RedHawks defeated the Trojans, 77-67, at the Savannah Center Monday.

QUARTER BREAKDOWN

FIRST QUARTER (IU Northwest 13, TIU 12)

  • The RedHawks started off on a 6-0 run offensively and defensively holding the Trojans scoreless for the first 2:46 of the game.

  • Sarah Martin and Michaela Schmidt started off strong by combining for the RedHawks first 10 points to start the game.

  • TIU cut it down to one point after hitting a jumper towards the end of the first quarter.

  • IUN led 13-12 after one quarter of action.

SECOND QUARTER (IU Northwest 46, TIU 33)

  • The second quarter was high scoring for both teams as the RedHawks scored 33 and the Trojans scored 21.

  • IU Northwest started the period on a 14-3 spurt to go up 27-15 at the 6:56 mark.

  • Boles was nearly unstoppable in that stretch as she scored nine out of the 14 points.

  • TIU made it as close as 10 points but the RedHawks had other plans.

  • Jessy Siems and Michaela Schmidt hit back-to-back baskets to give the RedHawks a 19 pointer lead which was their biggest of the night.

  • The Trojans outscored the RedHawks 8-2 the final two minutes of the half to cut the RedHawks lead to 46-33.

 

THIRD QUARTER (IU Northwest 57, TIU 49)

  • Boles started the scoring in the second half after the sophomore made both free throws to extend the RedHawks lead to 48-33.

  • TIU made an attempt at a comeback as the Trojans made it a single-digit deficit but IU Northwest had the answer.

  • Later in the half, Trinity made it a six-point game but Meghan Long responded right away with a basket.

  • Moments later, TIU cut it to five then Long completed the and-one to give the RedHawks a 57-49 lead with 10 seconds remaining in the quarter.

  • That score stayed heading into the final period.

FOURTH QUARTER (IU Northwest 77, TIU 67)

  • The Trojans started off the quarter trying to get some momentum as TIU had a three-pointer to cut the RedHawks lead down to 57-52.

  • TIU cut it to four points which was the closest they would get with 8:22 to play in the game as the RedHawks took advantage the rest of the way.  

  • Schmidt and Desa Geisler hit back-to-back buckets to give the RedHawks a 12-point lead with under three minutes to play in the contest.

  • TIU cut it back down to 10-points after recording the last basket of the game as the RedHawks won 77-67.

  • IU Northwest will be back in action Thursday, December 10 as the RedHawks travel to IU South Bend to take on the Titans starting at 4:30 p.m. CT.
