Women's Basketball Drops Contest Against #11 Indiana Tech Saturday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest women's basketball showed positive signs but it was not enough as No. 11 Indiana Tech defeated the RedHawks, 66-47, at Schaefer Center, Saturday.

QUARTER BREAKDOWN
FIRST QUARTER (Indiana Tech 16, IU Northwest 10) 

  • Desa Geisler started the game with a three pointer to give IU Northwest a 3-0 early lead.
  • Indiana Tech responded with a 10-0 run the next four minutes to grab a 10-3 lead midway through the first quarter.
  • The RedHawks bounced back large in part of Breanna Boles as the sophomore hit a layup and made one from behind the arc.
  •  Samantha Martin cut it to one (11-10) with 1:43 left in the opening period but IIT scored the last five points to close out the opening quarter.

SECOND QUARTER (Indiana Tech 33, IU Northwest 15)

  • The second quarter was all Indiana Tech which was the turning point of the contest. 
  • The Warriors scored the first six points of the quarter to make it 24-10 with 6:11 left.
  • Geisler ended the scoring drought for IU Northwest with a three-pointer. 
  • IIT rallied for seven more points in a row to grab a 33-13 lead at the 3:01 mark. 
  • Samantha Martin got the RedHawks back on the scoreboard after making a layup.
  • Both teams did not score the rest of the half with Indiana Tech taking a 33-15 lead into the break.

THIRD QUARTER (Indiana Tech 52, IU Northwest 37)

  • Indiana Tech made the first two baskets of the second half to grab a 38-15 lead, which was their biggest of the game. 
  • Boles put a stop it with a three-pointer to cut into the deficit. 
  • The Warriors responded with a basket then after that, IU Northwest scored six points in a row after Samantha Martin hit a three and Boles converted on an and-one to make it 40-24.
  • Jessy Siems knocked one in from down town to make it 42-27 with 4:59 to play in the third.  
  • Moments later, Boles converted on another and-one which made it 47-35 with under two minutes in the second period.
  • That was the closest the RedHawks got the rest of the way. 
  • The Warriors took a 52-37 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER (Indiana Tech 66, IU Northwest 47) 

  • Indiana Tech started the fourth quarter the same way they did in the third with back-to-back layups.
  • Boles nailed yet another three point jumper that made it 56-40.
  • Geisler hit her third three-pointer of the contest after the Warriors knocked down a pair at the line.
  • Indiana Tech grabbed a 22-point lead at the end of the game then off the bench Haley Rokosz knocked down a triple.
  • The Warriors ended up winning the game 66-47.

  • IU Northwest women's basketball will be on pause in the month of January and resume action Monday, February 1 as the RedHawks travel to Trinity International to take on the Trojans starting at 5:30 p.m. CT.
