Box Score Lincoln, Ill. -- The Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team was unable to pick up the victory on the road against Lincoln College Saturday. The Lynx (10-6) defeated the RedHawks (7-11), 64-55, Saturday.
:Lincoln led 19-8 after the first quarter after taking control of most of the period. Michaela Schmidt (Highland, Ind./Highland) opened the second period with a basket to make it single digits.
Hannah Hammar (Hammond, Ind./Morton) cut it to six points (24-18) after a basket with 8:26 left in the half. LC made it a 10-point game again with 4:38 left then IUN made it a six-point game again after Ashley O'Malley (Crown Point, Ind.) scored a bucket.
The Lynx looked to pull away in the second half but IUN cut it back to six points after a three-poiner by Alexis Vieck (Bicknell, Ind.). O'Malley started the fourth quarter with a three-pointer to make it a four-point game (49-45) Lincoln with 9:18 left in the game.
After a response by LC, Jayla Crump (Kouts, Ind./Kouts) knocked one down from downtown to make it 55-52 for a three-point IUN deficit their closest all game. The Lynx outscored the RedHawks 7-3 the rest of the way to pick up the 62-55 victory.
Lauren Smolen (Crown Point, Ind./Lake Central) recorded double figures to lead the RedHawks with 17 points. O'Malley had a near double-double as the senior scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
IUN returns to action Wednesday, January 15 as the RedHawks host Trinity International at the Savannah Center starting at 5:30 p.m. CT.
