GARY, Ind. — Sophomore midfielder-forward Xiomara Santana has been named the Herff Jones RedHawk Athlete of the Week for Week 3 after back-to-back match-winning performances powered Indiana University Northwest women's soccer to consecutive victories.
Santana delivered in a big way in the RedHawks' road match at Madonna University. She opened the scoring in the seventh minute with her first goal of the season, giving IUN early momentum that sent them to a 2-0 shutout victory. Her effort set the tone for the team's confident performance on the road.
Her clutch scoring continued into the home opener against Michigan-Dearborn. Santana found the back of the net again in the second half, converting off a well-placed corner from Ava Haluska to secure her second goal of the season and help seal a convincing 2-0 win. The RedHawks dominated possession and shots, outshooting Michigan-Dearborn 29 to 8 and earning their second straight clean sheet.
A Hammond, Ind. native and graduate of Bishop Noll Institute, Santana has seamlessly transitioned into a leadership role in her sophomore campaign. Her timely finishes and consistency in the attacking third have given IUN a reliable offensive spark.
For her decisive contributions during the Week 3 slate, Xiomara Santana is your Herff Jones RedHawk Athlete of the Week.
