EAST CHICAGO, Ind. — Junior Alanis Gonzalez scored her first goal of the season as IU Northwest battled Goshen College to a 1-1 draw Saturday night at East Chicago Central High School.
Gonzalez put the Redhawks (0-1-2) on the board in the 15th minute, finishing a shot into the net to give IU Northwest an early lead. The Maple Leafs pulled even in the 30th minute when Sophia Yoder scored unassisted to make it 1-1.
IU Northwest controlled much of the contest, outshooting Goshen 19-4 and earning five corner kicks. The Redhawks pressed hard in the second half, but Goshen goalkeeper Aina Lopez tallied nine saves, including several late stops, to preserve the tie. Midfielder Xiomara Santana led IU Northwest with eight shots, four on target, while Daisy Bonilla added two more.
Goalkeeper Isabel Escalera recorded two saves to help secure the result.
The Redhawks return to action Monday, Sept. 1, with a 1 p.m. road match against Madonna University in Livonia, Mich.
