EAST CHICAGO, Ind. - Indiana University Northwest women's soccer defeated Michigan-Dearborn 2-0 Friday at East Chicago Central High School, extending its winning streak to two games.
The RedHawks (2-1-2) controlled the match with a 29-8 shot advantage and recorded their second straight shutout. Xiomara Santana and Alanis Gonzalez each scored second-half goals for IU Northwest.
The game remained scoreless through the first 69 minutes before the RedHawks broke through. Ava Haluska's corner kick found Santana, who converted for her second goal of the season.
Gonzalez added insurance in the 80th minute, finishing a pass from Santana for her second goal of the year to secure the 2-0 victory.
Goalkeeper Isabel Escalera made four saves in the first half to preserve the shutout. The RedHawks outshot Michigan-Dearborn 20-2 in the second half while controlling possession.
Michigan-Dearborn goalkeeper Julia Tasker recorded 13 saves to keep the margin close for the Wolverines (0-4-0).
IU Northwest has now outscored opponents 4-0 during its two-game winning streak. The RedHawks travel to Fort Wayne on Friday, Sept. 12, for a 6 p.m. match against the University of Saint Francis (Ind.).
