GARY, Ind. — Senior goalkeeper Izzy Escalera has been named the Herff Jones RedHawk Athlete of the Week for Week 8, after a standout stretch between Oct. 6 and Oct. 11 in Indiana University Northwest women's soccer.
Escalera anchored the backline in two pivotal matches, culminating in a scoreless draw at St. Ambrose on Oct. 11. In that outing, she recorded nine saves, including six in the first half alone, to preserve a shutout against a squad who was receiving votes in the NAIA national poll early in the season. Her performance helped the RedHawks earn a hard-fought draw on the road.
Across the week, Escalera's consistency and composure under pressure stood out as the defensive foundation for IUN. Her efforts not only prevented goals but also instilled confidence in her teammates to maintain shape and push for offensive chances without excessive risk.
A veteran presence in goal for the RedHawks, Escalera's leadership and shot-stopping ability have been key to IUN's competitiveness this season. For her game-saving contributions, steady performance, and ability to rise in pressure moments, Isabel Escalera is recognized as the Herff Jones RedHawk Athlete of the Week for Week 8.
