RedHawks Celebrate Seniors in Thrilling 3-3 Draw Against Holy Cross

Presented by Marcus Allard Truck Rental

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. — IU Northwest women's soccer honored its senior class with a spirited performance Sunday night, after rescheduling due to the weather, battling Holy Cross College to a 3-3 draw in a back-and-forth contest at East Chicago Central High School.

The RedHawks (4-3-8, 2-2-5 CCAC) celebrated seniors Nora Loebbert, Isabel Escalera, Asia Garcia, and Kendal Carrubba prior to kickoff, and the group helped lead IU Northwest through a dramatic, high-energy match that featured six total goals.

Freshman Ava Haluska opened the scoring in the 41st minute, curling a shot into the top corner for her second goal of the season. Holy Cross equalized just after halftime, but the RedHawks regained the lead in the 56th minute when Erin Harrison finished a setup from Gabby Maldonado. The Saints tied it again in the 60th minute before IU Northwest went ahead once more, as Gianna Witte scored her first collegiate goal for the season in the 78th minute off an assist from Haluska.

The drama continued as Holy Cross (7-5-3, 6-1-3 CCAC) was awarded a penalty in the 87th minute, converting to secure the 3-3 final. Goalkeeper Isabel Escalera finished with one save while the RedHawks held a 13-10 shot advantage and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

IU Northwest returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 21, with a 7 p.m. road matchup against the University of Saint Francis (Ill.) in Joliet, Ill.
