Escalera’s Career Night Helps IU Northwest Earn Draw Against Olivet Nazarene

Presented by Marcus Allard Truck Rental

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. — IU Northwest women's soccer put together a gritty defensive performance Wednesday evening, battling Olivet Nazarene University to a 0-0 draw at East Chicago Central High School.

The RedHawks (4-3-7, 2-2-4 CCAC) leaned on senior goalkeeper Isabel Escalera, who delivered a career-best 13 saves, including six in the second half, to earn her sixth shutout of the season. The clean sheet came against an Olivet Nazarene squad (5-0-6, 3-0-5 CCAC) that has been one of the top defensive teams in the conference this year.

Olivet Nazarene controlled much of the possession, holding a 22-3 shot advantage and earning six corner kicks. However, Escalera and the IU Northwest back line — led by Gianna Witte — withstood constant pressure, including a first-half penalty kick that went left in the 22nd minute.

The RedHawks' best scoring chances came late in the match, as Harrison forced two saves in the final 10 minutes, but neither side could find the breakthrough goal.

IU Northwest returns home Saturday, Oct. 18, for Senior Night, hosting Holy Cross College at 6 p.m. at East Chicago Central High School.
