DAVENPORT, Iowa — IU Northwest women's soccer battled to a 0-0 draw against Saint Ambrose University on Saturday evening in a strong defensive effort against one of the top teams in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
The RedHawks (4-3-6, 2-2-3 CCAC) stood tall against a Saint Ambrose squad that entered the season receiving votes in the NAIA national poll. Goalkeeper Isabel Escalera anchored the IU Northwest defense with nine saves, including six in the first half, to earn her fifth shutout of the year.
Saint Ambrose (6-5-3, 4-1-3 CCAC) controlled much of the possession and outshot IU Northwest 20-2, holding an 11-1 edge in corner kicks. Despite the pressure, the RedHawks stayed organized defensively, with Erin Harrison and Ava Haluska generating IU Northwest's best attacking opportunities in transition.
The draw marked IU Northwest's sixth tie of the season and its third clean sheet in conference play.
The RedHawks return home Wednesday, Oct. 15, to host Olivet Nazarene University at 5:30 p.m. at East Chicago Central High School.
