Box Score Berrien Springs, MI – IU Northwest Men's Basketball shook off a pesky Andrews squad and used a big second half to surge past the Cardinals and win 83-53.
Ina back and forth affair in the first half where the Cardinals shot the ball well, IU Northwest was unable to create much breathing room and settled for a 38-34 lead at the half. In the second half, it was all RedHawks as they outscored the Cardinals 45-19 to pull away for their second consecutive win and improve to 4-6 on the season. The RedHawks length and athleticism prove to be too much as they earned numerous second chance opportunities off offensive rebounding.
The RedHawks out-rebounded the smaller Cardinals 51-34. Andrews playing 2-3 zone throughout the evening had trouble matching up with the taller RedHawks. IUN long distance attempts began falling in the second half at the same time that the Cardinals got cold. Andrews who shot 50% in the first half struggled mightily in the second half shooting just 27% including 0-13 from long distance. They were just 3-26 from three for the game.
IU Northwest placed four players in double figures led by
Jared Johnson's game high 20 points, Lamrius Lillard added 12 points and 8 boards,
De'Avion Washington added 12 points off the bench for IUN and
Ryan LaFollette. Johnson was 6-11 from long range as the RedHawks shot 41% overall and 37% from three while converting 9-10 from the line.
Next Up: The RedHawks (4-6) will host CCAC rival IU South Bend this Saturday at the Savannah Center with a 3 p.m. tip.
