GARY, Ind. — Junior guard Romello Ali has been named the Herff Jones RedHawk Athlete of the Week for Week 18 following strong contributions for the Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team in games played between Jan. 19 and Jan. 24.
Ali provided a spark off the bench during the RedHawks' Jan. 21 road game at Viterbo University, coming through with timely scoring and stout defense in a close CCAC matchup. He finished with a high of 12 points, including key baskets in the second half that helped IUN secure a 60-55 victory. Ali's presence energized the RedHawks' attack and he played a significant role in maintaining momentum as the visiting squad closed out the game strong.
Two nights later at Saint Ambrose University on Jan. 24, Ali again made the most of his opportunities, contributing efficient scoring and high-effort defense as part of IUN's balanced attack. His energy on both ends of the court helped the RedHawks compete throughout the matchup and set up crucial possessions late in regulation.
A junior guard from Lansing, Ill., Ali has steadily grown into a versatile scoring option and defensive force for the RedHawks this season.
