GARY, Ind. — Senior guard Ladaion Barnes has been named the Herff Jones RedHawk Athlete of the Week for Week 17 following historic performances in Indiana University Northwest's men's basketball games between Jan. 12 and Jan. 18.
Barnes was recognized as the CCAC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 11, a testament to his dominant play throughout the week that included both scoring and defensive contributions. Over the reporting period, he averaged 34.0 points per game, showcased efficient shooting and delivered one of the most memorable performances in program history.
The highlight of Barnes' week came in an 81-78 win over St. Francis (Ill.) on Jan. 17, when he set a new single-game scoring record for RedHawks men's basketball with 44 points. In that outing, Barnes was nearly automatic, going 15-of-20 from the field and 7-of-10 from three-point range, while also contributing rebounds, blocks, assists and steals in a complete all-around effort.
Earlier in the week, he opened with a strong showing versus Governors State, scoring 24 points to help keep IUN competitive in a tough CCAC matchup. Across both games, Barnes shot nearly 65 percent from the floor and more than 70 percent from beyond the arc, underlining his efficiency and scoring versatility.
A Hammond, Ind., native and seasoned leader for the RedHawks, Barnes has continued to elevate his game in conference play. His record-setting scoring night and league honors reflect his ability to take over contests and carry the RedHawks when called upon.
