UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. — Indiana University Northwest volleyball came up short on the road Tuesday night, falling 3-1 (26-24, 25-21, 18-25, 25-20) to Governors State inside the ARC.
The RedHawks (8-13, 5-3 CCAC) nearly stole the opening set after rallying late behind kills from Lindsey Krueger and Raniyah Preston. Tied at 23, IUN had a set point, but Governors State closed with back-to-back kills to take it 26-24.
In the second frame, IU Northwest again kept it tight. Gabi Lilovich's kill tied it at 18, but the Jaguars used a late surge from Greta Bochert to claim a 25-21 win.
The RedHawks answered in the third with their best rhythm of the night, hitting .192 in the set. Lilovich and Preston connected for back-to-back kills, and Krueger added a service ace to help IUN build a 19-13 lead. Baileigh Uporsky and Kaelan Murphy teamed up for a block that sealed the set 25-18.
IU Northwest struck first in the fourth, jumping out 4-0 after kills from Lilovich and Trinitie Lintner. But Governors State responded with a 7-1 run fueled by Bochert and Trenyce Bonner. Despite late swings from Krueger and Preston, the Jaguars closed out the match 25-20.
Lilovich led the RedHawks with nine kills, 23 assists, and two aces, while Preston and Murphy each added eight kills. Krueger posted 10 kills and 15 digs, and Everett finished with 11 digs and two aces.
IU Northwest returns to action Friday, Oct. 3, traveling to Huntington, Ind., for a tri-match. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
