HUNTINGTON, Ind. — Indiana University Northwest volleyball faced a tough test Friday on the road, dropping a straight-set match to host Huntington (RV) before rebounding with a four-set victory over Ohio Christian in the nightcap.
Game 1: Huntington (RV) def. IU Northwest 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-14)
The RedHawks (8-14) opened strong with a 3-0 lead in the first set behind kills from Lindsey Krueger and Gabi Lilovich. Huntington quickly countered with a 10-6 advantage, but libero Abby Allen provided a spark with back-to-back aces to close the gap to 15-14. The Foresters closed on an 11-2 run to seal the opener and never looked back.
The second set followed the same pattern as Huntington used a 7-2 run to build separation after Allen's ace gave IUN a brief lead at 5-4. In the third, the Foresters dominated behind Layla Meyer's four consecutive service aces, burying the RedHawks early.
The RedHawks' offense was paced by Murphy's four kills, with Krueger and Lilovich combining for five kills and five assists in the effort.
Game 2: IU Northwest def. Ohio Christian 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-20)
IU Northwest regrouped in the second match, spreading the attack across six players with five or more kills. After dropping the opening set 25-22 despite late kills from Trinitie Lintner and Murphy, the RedHawks took control in the second with a 6-0 run highlighted by service aces from Krueger and Lilovich. Preston and Murphy delivered clutch kills down the stretch to secure a 25-21 win.
In the third, the RedHawks never trailed after an Eva Everett ace gave them a 4-3 lead. Lilovich and Preston added multiple kills in a decisive mid-set stretch, and Krueger closed it with a kill for the 25-18 win. IUN carried the momentum into the fourth, using an 8-1 run fueled by Krueger and Lilovich. Allen's ace stretched the margin to 18-12, and Preston's kill sealed the 25-20 match victory.
Krueger led the RedHawks with 13 kills on .370 hitting and four aces. Lilovich turned in a complete performance with 11 kills and 17 assists. Lintner contributed nine kills, and Baileigh Uporsky added eight kills on .615 hitting. Preston distributed 26 assists and added seven kills, while Allen totaled four aces.
IU Northwest continues its road schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 7, traveling to Saint Francis (Ill.) for a CCAC matchup. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
