GARY, Ind. – Indiana University Northwest Athletics proudly announces the hiring of RedHawk volleyball alum Robyn Griffin as the new Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications. A 2021 graduate and former multi-sport student-athlete, Griffin returns to her alma mater to lead the department's media relations, digital presence and athletic communications strategies .
Griffin brings a dynamic mix of experience, creativity and RedHawk pride to the role. She most recently served as the sports information director at Stephens College, an NAIA institution in Columbia, Mo. There, she led all aspects of athletic communications for four varsity programs, developed digital campaigns, launched a sustainability-focused ticketing system and introduced student-athlete recognition initiatives. She also served as the institution's senior woman leader.
A Chicagoland native, Griffin joined IU Northwest in 2016 on a volleyball scholarship and also competed in women's golf and women's soccer. She was a key contributor during the volleyball program's historic rise, helping the RedHawks reach the 2018 NAIA National Tournament—the first national appearance in program history. That same season, she earned A.I.I. All-Tournament Team honors. Off the court, she was named co-recipient of the RedHawk Record Award for volleyball excellence.
Beyond her athletic achievements, Griffin earned valuable experience early on to build the foundation for her career in sports information.Those experiences included working as a student statistician for IU Northwest, eventually becoming the department's primary contact for statistics and game-day operations across multiple sports.
After graduating, Griffin earned a master's degree in sport management from the University of Indianapolis in 2023. As a graduate assistant, she created content for the sport management program's social media platforms and contributed to high-profile events, including the 2021 College Football Playoff and worked with the NCAA Eligibility Center. She also supported championship events hosted by the GLVC, Horizon League, and the NAIA.
"Coming back to IU Northwest feels like coming home," Griffin said. "This is the place that gave me my start—not just as an athlete, but as a communicator. To now help elevate RedHawk Athletics from the other side of the desk is an honor I don't take lightly."
Griffin's appointment reflects IU Northwest's continued investment in enhancing the RedHawk brand and elevating the student-athlete experience through strategic communication and digital innovation.
