MARION, Ind. — The Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team faced one of its toughest early-season tests Tuesday night, falling 95-56 to No. 10 Indiana Wesleyan University at Luckey Arena.
The RedHawks (1-2) showed resilience throughout the matchup against the nationally ranked Wildcats, highlighted by a strong second-half effort led by Ava Kingery and De'Mour Watson. Kingery finished with 11 points, connecting on two three-pointers and going 5-for-6 from the free-throw line, while Watson added seven points, five rebounds, and three assists.
After a cold-shooting start that saw the RedHawks trail 47-19 at halftime, IU Northwest found rhythm out of the break, shooting 60 percent in the fourth quarter. Aniyah Hinton-Henry provided a late spark off the bench, scoring 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Madelyn Murray added seven points and five rebounds, and Maggie Grady went 3-for-4 from the floor for seven points.
Indiana Wesleyan (2-2) built its lead through hot perimeter shooting, finishing 17-of-48 from three-point range. IU Northwest countered by attacking the lane and winning the fast-break battle 4-0, while also posting 20 points off turnovers.
Despite the loss, the RedHawks displayed energy and depth, with all 11 players seeing the floor and combining for 20 bench points against the top-10 opponent.
IU Northwest travels to Chicago, Ill., to open play in the Catholic Classic hosted by Saint Xavier University. The RedHawks face No. 8 University of Saint Francis (Ind.) on Friday, Nov. 7, with tipoff set for 5 p.m.
