BOURBANNAIS, Ill. – The Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team overcame a slow start Wednesday to defeat CCAC rival Olivet Nazarene 75-61 to complete the season sweep and maintain the fifth spot in the conference standings.
Seven minutes into the game the RedHawks (12-10, 9-6) found themselves down 19-9 in the first quarter and 27-16 in the second. IUN was able to get an offensive rhythm in the second quarter that was jump started by a
Jessica Carrothers layup.
The Carrothers bunny began a 25-7 run that put the RedHawks up by seven with 1:22 left in the second period.
Near the midway point in the third frame ONU was down just five, but IUN would not allow the Tigers to get any closer. The RedHawks would pounce and got up by as much as 14 after
Tiara Jackson scored two of her 15 points.
After ONU got its deficit down to nine at the 4:16 mark in the fourth, the RedHawks would quickly go back up by double figures as Jackson scored the final four points of the game for IUN.
In all Carrothers finished the game with a team-high 30 points, while Jackson had a double-double and
Samantha Martin closed out the night with nine points and 11 rebounds.
Next up for IUN is a Saturday afternoon ballgame at Trinity Christian which is slated to begin at 1 p.m. in Palos Heights.
