GARY, Ind. – Jessica Carrothers led all scorers with 32 points, but the Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team dropped an 84-69 decision to Saint Xavier Saturday in CCAC action.
Late in the opening quarter the RedHawks were down a dozen, but a
Tiara Jackson bucket with a minute left brought the game within 10 at 26-16. The run would continue into the second period as
Samantha Martin dropped a layup in to make it a one-point contest.
However, the RedHawks were not able to take the lead as both teams went scoreless over the final three minutes.
IUN continued to stay cold in the second half until
Makayla Best drained a three at the 6:02 mark of the third quarter. At the close of the third frame, Carrothers scored on a fast break bucket, which made it a two-score game headed into the final period.
Early in the final stanza, the RedHawks kept the contest at two possessions, but a SXU three shifted the momentum and IUN was not able to draw any closer.
IUN currently sits in fifth place in the CCAC standings tied with Holy Cross and Olivet Nazarene at 8-6. The RedHawks return to action Wednesday when they travel to ONU for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
