CHICAGO – Jessica Carrothers scored a game-high 27 points and the Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team defeated Roosevelt 57-54 to advance to the second round of the CCAC Tournament Thursday in South Bend.
Tiara Jackson, who scored seven points hit her most important tally in the closing seconds when she hit the back end of two free throws with 13 ticks left. To get there with the score tied at 51 Carrothers scored an old fashion three point to put the RedHawks 54-51.
On the Lakers following possession they missed the tying three and
Katelyn Halfacre secured the defensive rebound. Halfacre, who was fouled nailed both charity shots to put the RedHawks up by five (56-51).
RU trying to get back into the game in the final moments hit a three from the top of the key making it 56-54. That led to the Lakers fouling Jackson, which forced the Lakers to fire up a desperation shot to the final seconds.
Next up for the RedHawks is a trip to South Bend to play IUSB in the semifinals of the CCAC Tournament at 7 p.m. (EST).
