CHICAGO –- Tiara Jackson led the way with 19 points and 10 rebounds as the Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team stole an 86-65 road victory over Roosevelt in the CCAC regular season finale Saturday.
Jessica Carrothers, who finished the afternoon with 18 points, scored the first basket of the game for the RedHawks, and they were able to establish an 11 point lead a few minutes later on
Katelyn Halfacre's fast break bucket.
Less than four minutes into the second stanza IUN's lead would get to a dozen on another Carrothers basket. The Lakers, however, would get as close as five before the RedHawks would push the lead back over double digits.
Then over the final two minutes in the first half, RU chopped the IUN lead down to six after the RedHawks went cold.
The scoring drought was ended quickly in the third quarter for IUN when
Samantha Martin nailed a jumper. The Lakers though would hang close until
Makayla Best scored five straight points to end the frame, which pushed the IUN advantage to 12.
Following Best's dagger shots, the RedHawks lead would never go under 12 points, and they would eventually go up by 23 in the fourth after a Jackson free throw.
With the win over Roosevelt, IUN heads back to downtown Chicago Tuesday to play the Lakers in the opening round of the CCAC Tournament beginning at 6 p.m. The RedHawks are the fifth seed, while RU earned the four spot.
