GARY, Ind. – For the fifth time in six games,
Jessica Carrothers surpassed the 30-point mark for the Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team, but Governors State had a late run to grab the 75-62 win.
Twice in the opening frame, the RedHawks had an eight-point advantage, but couldn't push the lead any further. Early in the second stanza, the
Samantha Martin kept IUN's lead at eight after hitting the front end of two free throws.
The Jaguars, however, tied the contest up twice, but the RedHawks took the lead into the locker room after
Makayla Best drained a three with 13 ticks left.
In the third, IUN shot just 4-of-11 from the field but were able to battle back after falling down by 11 with one minute left.
Despite the cold shooting, the RedHawks overcame the tough third quarter as they used 10-0 run to tie the contest 58-58 with 5:39 left in the game. IUN could not continue the hot stretch as GSU's 17-4 run over the final five minutes closed out the game.
With the loss, IUN plays a first round CCAC Tournament game on the road and will be either the fifth or sixth seed on Tuesday.
The RedHawks hit the road Saturday for the final conference showdown at Roosevelt, which starts 1 p.m. in Chicago.
