DAVENPORT, Iowa – Behind
Jessica Carrothers record setting 51-point afternoon, the Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team defeated St. Ambrose 85-67 in CCAC action Saturday.
The RedHawks and Bees stayed close through the first quarter, but IUN grabbed the lead late in the opening frame for good when
Samantha Martin hit a jumper with less than a minute to go. Then a few minutes later
Tiara Jackson added to the RedHawks advantage when she scored down low.
During second period action, IUN went up by 14, but a 7-0 SAU run got its deficit down seven before back-to-back baskets by Carrothers put the RedHawks up by double figures before the break.
In second half play, the IUN lead ballooned to as high as 21 when
Emma Schmidt drilled a three. Schmidt finished the day with five points on 2-of-3 shooting from the field and two rebounds.
Late in the fourth quarter Carrothers broke her previous school record of 44 in points a game when scored her 51
st point against the Bees. Carrothers has scored 30 or more points in a game eight times this season.
With the win coupled by Saint Xavier and Roosevelt losses, the RedHawks are within a game of hosting a first-round conference tournament game. IUN welcomes second place Governors State on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 5:30 p.m.
