WHITING, Ind. — Jessica Carrothers continued her stellar season with a 35-point performance as Indiana Northwest cruised to a commanding 102-46 victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph in CCAC action Tuesday evening at the Rittenmeyer Center.
The RedHawks (7-1, 2-0 CCAC) were dominant from the opening tip, using a suffocating defense and efficient offense to set the tone early. Indiana Northwest outscored the Crimson Wave 29-9 in the first quarter and extended their lead to 62-20 by halftime. Carrothers, the nation's leading scorer, delivered another all-around effort, shooting 16-of-24 from the field while adding seven steals, eight assists, and six rebounds in just 26 minutes of action.
The RedHawks capitalized on their defensive pressure, forcing 37 turnovers that led to 33 points. Indiana Northwest also controlled the glass, outrebounding Calumet 47-42, and finished with 14 second-chance points.
Tiara Jackson provided a strong interior presence, scoring 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting and grabbing seven rebounds.
Amari Cole made a big impact off the bench, tallying 13 points and seven boards, while
Katelyn Halfacre chipped in 12 points, knocking down four of Indiana Northwest's eight three-pointers.
The RedHawks showed their depth, with 10 players finding the scoresheet. Their bench contributed 32 points, and the team's unselfish play was evident in their 26 assists.
Calumet (1-7, 0-2 CCAC) struggled to keep pace, shooting just 27.5% from the field. Markisha Pritchett and Lania Ramirez led the Crimson Wave with 10 points each, while Ariana Lemons added nine points and five rebounds. Despite their effort on the boards, Calumet was unable to convert second-chance opportunities, scoring just five points in that category.
Indiana Northwest's largest lead of the night, 56 points, came late in the fourth quarter as the RedHawks continued to push the pace. The win marks their second straight in conference play as they continue to build momentum early in the season.
The RedHawks will be back in action on Sunday, December 1, when they travel to play a non-conference game against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. CST.
