CHICAGO, Ill. - The Indiana University Northwest women's volleyball team traveled to Chicago, Illinois Saturday afternoon to take on Saint Xavier University, which entered the match undefeated in conference play and tied for first in the CCAC.
The first two sets were competitive, with the Cougars taking the first 25-22. The RedHawks responded by winning the second set 25-23. As they entered the third set, both teams sought momentum to take control of the match.
The Cougars seized that momentum, winning the third set 25-13, and carried it through to finish the match by taking the fourth set 15-19.
Despite the loss, seniors
Briah Strezo and
Erica Packwood both posted a team-high seven kills. Sophomore
Baileigh Uporsky was a strong presence at the net, recording a game-high five blocks. Senior
Josephine Mulligan contributed 14 assists.
For the Cougars, seniors Courtney Hunter and Connie LeBel were dominant. Hunter tallied a game-high 17 kills, while LeBel followed closely with 15. Senior Kaleigh Ritter recorded a game-high 40 assists.
With the loss, RedHawks' overall record drops to 11-13 and 4-4 in the CCAC, placing them fifth in the conference. IU Northwest returns home on Tuesday, October 8, to host Trinity Christian College. The Trolls are 2-4 in conference play and the RedHawks will look to improve their record back above .500. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. CDT.
