GARY, Ind. – Jessica Carrothers and
Tiara Jackson each had a double-double to push the Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team past Olivet Nazarene 85-74 Saturday afternoon in CCAC action.
Jackson scored two of her 20 at the 6:47 mark in the first quarter to give the RedHawks a lead they wouldn't lose. IUN would have an advantage as large as 10 in the opening frame after
Katelyn Halfacre drained a three late.
The Tigers got their double-digit deficit down to five (30-25) midway through the second, but the RedHawks used an 18-7 spurt that was capped off by Carrother's three at the buzzer from just past the half court line, which was part of 35 point afternoon.
Following intermission IUN built an advantage of 22 twice after buckets by Carrothers and Jackson. ONU, however, used a third quarter run and inched as close as 10 before
Samantha Martin ended the run when she tickled the twine for two of six points with four ticks left.
The RedHawks continued their hot momentum in the final quarter going back up by 17 when Jackson scored four straight points. The Tigers had one final run, but an
Alyna Santiago free throw sealed the game for IUN.
For the contest, Carrothers added 10 assists and four steals, while Jackson grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. Halfacre, meanwhile, added 18 points on a team-best four trifectas to go along with four assists.
