GARY, Ind. – Behind a 22 point and 13 rebound game from
Jessica Carrothers the Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team defeated St. Francis 62-53 Saturday afternoon in CCAC action.
Through the first four minutes of the contest the RedHawks and Saints were trading buckets, but the momentum shifted when Carrothers hit a jumper that began a 13-5 spurt. The run put IUN up nine following a
Makayla Best trifecta.
In the second quarter, the RedHawks built an advantage of 17-point after Best scored down low, which was part of her 15-point night. However, over the final six plus minutes USF chopped its deficit down to six before intermission.
During second half action, IUN would continue to hold the lead, but the Saints grabbed a small lead of two in the third quarter before Carrothers tied the game up again.
Carrothers bucket was the beginning of a 9-0 run that was book ended by her own three-pointer. USF would not get any closer than four for the remainder of the contest as IUN put the game out of reach on free throws.
Samantha Martin also hit double figures for the RedHawks as she scored 10 points and pulled down three rebounds.
IUN returns to action Monday evening at 5:30 p.m. when Trinity Christian comes to the Savannah Center for a conference contest.
