Carrothers Double-Double Lifts IUN past CCSJ

WHITING, Ind. Jessica Carrothers finished the day with 34 points and 15 rebounds as the Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team defeated Calumet St. Joseph's 78-44 Wednesday night in CCAC play.

Carrothers sank a three for the RedHawks first points of the day and the lead would eventually get to 14 by the end of the quarter. The IUN defense, meanwhile, kept the Crimson Wave scoreless for nearly three minutes during opening period play.

CCSJ chopped its deficit in half in the second period, but the RedHawks would push the advantage to 18 when Katelyn Halfacre drained one of her four three's on the evening. Halfacre would add another trifecta in the period.

Four minutes into the second half IUN got its lead over 20 when Carrothers connected from long range. The RedHawks would eventually go up by as much as 36 in the fourth when Makayla Best hit a shot from beyond the arc.

IUN is back in action Saturday when St. Francis comes to the Savannah Center for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
