BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Erica Packwood finished the night with a match-high 21 kills to go along with 15 digs and 12 assists, but the Indiana University Northwest volleyball team fell in five sets (24-26, 26-24, 25-20, 19-25, 5-15) at Olivet Nazarene Tuesday evening in CCAC play.
After dropping the first set, the RedHawks (2-15, 1-3) used a late rally in the second stanza to take the victory. IUN rallied from a 23-21 deficit in the second, that was jump started after an unforced Tiger error, and during that run the RedHawks had three kills from Packwood.
Following a Packwood kill in the third frame to give IUN a 5-4 advantage, the RedHawks would not trail for the remainder of the set. ONU, however, did get within three (23-20) late, but Packwood hammered another kill and
Jaelyn Donald picked up an ace to seal the deal.
During fourth set play the teams were knotted at 11 apiece, but the Tigers (5-6, 3-2) used a short run to take the lead for good. The RedHawks got a block assist from
Briah Strezo and
Karly Jevert to make it 21-18 but IUN could not use the momentum to take the lead.
Jevert started the scoring for the RedHawks in the fifth set, but after the Tigers had an attack blocked by
Chloe Roberts and
Baileigh Uporsky, ONU used an 8-0 swing to win the match.
The RedHawks are back in action Thursday when Governors State comes to the Savannah Center for a 7 p.m. first serve.
