HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Briah Strezo had a team-best seven kills for the Indiana University Northwest volleyball team, but Huntington was a winner in straight sets (25-16, 25-21, 25-14) Saturday evening inside Huntington North High School.
The 0-5 RedHawks are back to work Tuesday when they host CCAC rival Calumet St. Joseph's at 7 p.m. The contest is streamed live on JED TV.
Saturday night got off to a good start for IUN as
Erica Packwood scored the squads first point on one of her two aces and Strezo laid down a kill to go up 3-0. The Foresters, however stormed back and took a 15-8 lead before outscoring the RedHawks 10-8 over the last half of the opening set.
During second stanza action IUN and HU traded the first eight points before the Foresters used an 8-1 swing to go up 12-5. The RedHawks would mount a comeback and closed within four (21-17) following four consecutive HU unforced errors. IUN though could not draw any closer as it was edged 4-1 to wrap up the middle set.
Finding themselves down 9-2 in the final frame, the RedHawks called a timeout to regroup and scored three straight times, which came off a Packwood kill, a block by
Karly Javert and Strezo, along with a Forester unforced miscue.
The run for IUN was short as HU would eventually build an 11-point cushion late. Strezo though would get one final kill in before the match finished.
