GARY, Ind. – Baileigh Uporsky finished the night with six kills, but none were more important than her sixth in the five-set (25-15, 20-25, 25-20, 21-25, 17-15) victory for the Indiana University Northwest volleyball team over CCAC foe Calumet Saint Joseph's Tuesday night inside the Savannah Center.
With the win, the RedHawks are 1-5 and look to continue the momentum this weekend at the Siena Heights Invitational.
The opening set was back and forth early until a momentum shifting block by
Briah Strezo and Uporsky. The block began 13-5 swing that put IUN on top 19-11, and they would stay leading for the remainder of the stanza.
After dropping the second set, the RedHawks got back on track in the third, which included climbing out of an 11-5 hole. IUN began its climb following a
Jaelyn Donald kill that jumped started a 13-6 back breaking run.
The RedHawks were forced into another deficit in the fourth set but could not overcome the 18-11 CCSJ lead. However, in the final frame IUN had some magic up its sleeve down 14-12 after Donald and Uporsky blocked a shot that gave the RedHawks their boost.
The RedHawks outscored the Crimson Wave 5-1 after facing match point as
Emma Roberts put an ace down and then Uporsky hammered down her match-winning kill.
Following Tuesday's win over the Crimson Wave, Uporsky leads the conference in total blocks at 26, while
Chloe Roberts tops the league with 91 digs.
