PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – Jessica Carrothers had her second consecutive 30-point performance Friday afternoon for the Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team; however, Northwestern (Iowa) was a 63-52 winner.
The RedHawks were in a 10-point hole (12-2) midway through the opening quarter but found their groove and went on a 10-2 run to end of the period. Carrothers sank a three late to bring IUN within a basket.
To open the second stanza,
Katelyn Halfacre drilled a three and the RedHawks took a slim advantage. Later in the period,
Alyna Santiago sank a pair of free throws to give IUN a three-point (21-18) cushion, but the Raiders used an 11-2 swing to close out the opening half.
A layup with less than two minutes left in the third put Northwestern up by 11, but
Makayla Best hit from deep on the following trip down the floor, which jump started an 8-0 run to get the RedHawks back to within a bucket going into the fourth.
Carrothers scored down low at the 8:51 mark in the final quarter, which left IUN down 45-43, but that would be as close as the RedHawks would get.
IUN is back on the court Saturday morning at 10 a.m. to wrap up the Troll Classic against No. 3 Dordt.
