SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Three starters went into double figures for the Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team, but it was not enough as IU South Bend was an 84-74 winner Tuesday evening in CCAC play.
Through the first nine minutes of the game the teams were trading baskets as neither team had a lead larger than four.
Jalen Houston scored to tie the game at 18 with 10:52 left, but the Titans quickly went up by a dozen.
Anthony Taylor scored in the paint with just over a minute left in the opening half, which saw IUN make it a 38-31 ballgame. The Titans would finish the half off by scoring the next six points to take a 13-point lead into the break.
Quickly in the second half, the RedHawks erased the deficit and tied the game at 46 when Houston scored three of his team-best 18 points. After IUSB scored on its next trip down the floor
Dannie Smith tied things up again, but the RedHawks could not keep the momentum.
After the Titans built a 19-point (81-62) cushion late in the half, the RedHawks would use a 12-1 swing to get within eight with 22 seconds left. IUN, however, was not able to come up with late game magic as IUSB hit its final two free throws to finish up the game.
IUN jumps back into action on Saturday when it travels down to Indianapolis to play Marian at 4:30 p.m. central time.
