GARY, Ind. – Makayla Best and
Tiara Jackson each had 18 points to lead the Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team past Calumet St. Joseph's 88-37 Saturday afternoon in CCAC action.
With the score knotted at four,
Emma Schmidt took an open three, which jump started a 17-4 game changing run.
Katelyn Halfacre and Best also hit trifectas during that long first quarter run for the RedHawks.
During second period play, IUN wasn't done draining three's as Schmidt hit one and Best nailed a pair. Jackson, however, got to work down low as the East Chicago, native scored eight points in the paint.
Late in the third stanza, Jackson got back to work as the IUN offense fed the senior as she hit three field goals and a pair of free throws, which gave the RedHawks a 64-25 advantage going into the final quarter.
Maranda Mason got into the action early in the fourth, as she hit from beyond the arc and then
Rebecca Benefield put IUN up by 50 with three minutes left. The lead would get as high as 52 after
Rimata Halabi drained a three with 1:14 remaining.
For the game Schmidt finished with 10 and three steals, while
Abbie Tomblin added 10 points and four assists off the bench.
Khloe Patterson, meanwhile, had a career-high 10 rebounds to go along with eight points.
IUN plays at archrival No. 25 IU South Bend Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. central time.
