ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – Jalen Houston poured in 22 points to lead the Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team, but a bucket with four seconds left gave Rochester a 71-70 victory Friday night in the Tim Horton's Classic.
Midway through the opening half
Jaylen Jennings gave the RedHawks a lead of eight following a pair of free throws. After the Warriors got the IUN advantage down to two, Houston scored on a jumper to push the lead back to eight.
The RedHawks would keep the lead for the remainder of the stanza and would take a three-point (35-32) cushion into the locker room.
Second period action would become a back-and-forth battle with neither squad taking a lead larger than five through the first 10 minutes. However, an 8-0 swing by Warriors would put them up 58-51.
The RedHawks defense would then keep RU scoreless for several minutes and
that allowed IUN to regain the lead when
Demarius Splunge scored down low. The run would continue as the RedHawks would go up 66-58 when Houston scored on a fastbreak layup.
With time ticking away, the RedHawks kept a lead and got buckets by Houston and
Anthony Taylor, but with the clock nearing zeros RU scored on a three to take a 71-70 lead. IUN had one more chance to win the ballgame, but Houston missed a three at the buzzer.
The RedHawks are back in action Saturday at 2 p.m. when they take on Michigan-Dearborn in the final day of the Tim Horton's Classic.
