GARY, Ind. – Jessica Carrothers dropped 30 and Tiara Jackson added 17 points and 15 rebounds to lift the Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team past toll road foe Bethel 74-46 Saturday night in the season opener.
 
The RedHawks (1-0) got off to a fast start going up by 10 and holding the Pilots scoreless for over four minutes. In the closing moments of the opening quarter, Jackson pushed the RedHawks lead to 16 on a pass from Alyna Santiago.
 
IUN's defense dominated in the second period as Bethel went without a bucket for over seven minutes.  Carrothers, meanwhile, scored two of her 30 points when she tickled the twine on layup with less than a minute remaining, which put the RedHawks up by 34.
 
With four minutes left in the third, Carrothers gave IUN its largest lead of the night at 59-17. Following a Pilots run in the fourth, Jackson pushed the RedHawks advantage to 35 as she took an assist from Khloe Patterson.
 
Late in the game, Patterson would score her first intercollegiate points on a jumper in the paint to make it a 74-42 contest.
 
Next on the schedule for IUN is a trip to Palos Heights, Ill., for the Troll Classic starting Friday at 2 p.m. against Northwestern (Iowa).
