Best Leads Women's Basketball to Win on the Road

Four players in double figures helped secure the win for the RedHawks.

Aquinas College, Grand Rapids, MI - Makayla Best led the RedHawks to their second win on the season behind 17 points, 14 of which were scored in the first half. Best and Sarah Martin scored the RedHawks first 8 points. Katelyn Halfacre scored 6 of the next 7 points for IU Northwest to put the RedHawks up by the score of 15-9. The teams finished the quarter 18-12.

The RedHawks went on a 12-3 run to start the second quarter to make the lead 30-15. Best scored 8 of the 12 points in the run with Tiara Jackson and Michaela Schmidt each adding a basket. The RedHawks and Aquinas College Saints traded baskets to end the quarter with the RedHawks taking a 39-26 advantage into the locker room.

Michaela Schmidt came out of halftime and scored 4 points in 3 minutes of action with Sarah Martin then capitalizing on a three point play to put the RedHawks up 48-31. Karli Miller scored 5 points in the quarter including a three point play and hitting another two free throws.  The three point play ballooned the RedHawks lead to 19 points (54-35). The score at the end of 3 quarters was 58-43.

Aquinas College went on a run during the fourth quarter to decrease the lead to 8 with 1:34 remaining in the game.  The RedHawks hit 7 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter to solidify their 73-68 road win.

Makayla Best led the RedHawks with 17 points, followed by Michaela Schmidt and Tiara Jackson with 14.  Jackson finished the game with a double-double (14 points and 12 rebounds). Sarah Martin rounded out the players in double figures with 13. Katelyn Halfacre scored 9 and Karli Miller rounded out the RedHawks scoring with 6.

The RedHawks are back in action Wednesday, November 9th at 5:30 at Roosevelt University.
