Chicago, Ill. - IU Northwest rolled into the Windy City Wednesday evening looking for their third straight victory to begin the 2022-23 season in matchup with the hist Roosevelt Lakers.
The RedHawks got off to a quick start and quickly built an 8 point lead by the end of the first quarter highlighted by senior
Michaela Schmidt's 1000th career point. Back to back buckets by
Tiara Jackson who was a dominant force inside the entire evening would grow the RedHawk lead to 28-16 early in the second half. By the time the second quarter ended IUN would find themselves comfortably ahead 43-25 as the stingy RedHawk defense held the Lakers to just 21% shooting in the first half.Â
IUN would pick up right where they left off to begin the second half with a quick five point run courtesy of a three-point bucket by Micheala Schmidt and a field goal from Jackson to swell the RedHawk lead to 23 points at 48-25. Jackson would later put the RedHawks ahead by 26 points near the end of the third quarter for their largest advantage of the game.
In the fourth period, a barrage of Laker threes would cut the RedHawk lead to as few as 11 with just less than six minutes remaining, however they would get no closer as IU Northwest would cruise to their third straight win to open the season.
The RedHawks posted four players in double figures for the second straight game led by Makayla Best and her game high18 points.
Tiara Jackson recorded another double double with 17 points and 16 rebounds. Michaela was also outstanding with a double double of her own with 16 points and 13 rebounds and

With the win the RedHawks improved to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in CCAC league play.Â
