Four in Double Figures Leads Women's Basketball to Win at Bethel

Mishawaka, IN - The IU Northwest RedHawks traveled to Mishawaka, IN, on a snowy night to face off against the Bethel University Pilots.  The RedHawks (5-1, 2-0 CCAC) started the game off with a 10-2 run with Tiara Jackson and Karli Miller both scoring two layups and Michaela Schmidt adding a layup of her own. The RedHawks ended the quarter up 19-12.

The Pilots came out of the quarter break with a three pointer and Karli Miller and Sarah Martin added layups for the RedHawks to go back up 8. The Pilots added another three and Michaela Schmidt and Emma Schmidt added layups to put the lead at 27-20 with 4:07 left in the half. The Pilots ended the half with a 7-3 run with the RedHawks taking a 30-27 lead into the locker rooms.

The RedHawks and Pilots battled back and forth through the first seven minutes of the 3rd quarter with the Pilots gaining their largest lead of the game at 38-35. Sarah Martin ended the third quarter with a three point play and put the RedHawks back up 39-38 heading into the fourth quarter.

The RedHawks and Pilots traded baskets for the first 3 minutes of the final quarter. Karli Miller's layup with 7:11 left in the game put the RedHawks up for good. The basket by Miller started a 10-0 run for the RedHawks.  Michaela Schmidt, Sarah Martin, and Makayla Best added the other 8 points in the run. The RedHawks ended the game with a 57-46 win highlighted by a quick start and a final period where they outscored the Pilots 18-8.

Sarah Martin led all scorers with 16 points.  Michaela Schmidt added 14 points with Karli Miller and Tiara Jackson adding 10 each. Tiara Jackson finished with her fifth double-double in six games adding 12 rebounds as well.

NEXT UP: The RedHawks are back in action at the Savannah Center this Saturday against the Cardinal Stritch Wolves at 1 P.M..  Prior to the game, the IU Northwest Women's Basketball Team will be honoring Nicki Monahan with a jersey retirement ceremony.  In lieu of tickets, please bring 3 canned food items (or more) that are not expired for the RedHawks Nest Food Pantry, IU Northwest's food pantry.
