Men's Soccer Falters in 2nd Half Against Governors State Friday

CROWN POINT, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest men's soccer team played lights out defense in the first half after not allowing a goal but the second half Governors State added four goals to win the match 4-0.

HALF BREAKDOWN

FIRST HALF: Governors State 0, IU Northwest 0

  • Both teams were scoreless in the first half and did not score a goal.
  • Fernando Ramos recorded nine saves in the opening 45 minutes.

SECOND HALF: Governors State 4, IU Northwest 0

  • Governors State struck first in the 52nd minute to make it 1-0.
  • A few minutes later in the 55th minute, the Jaguars doubled their lead to make it 2-0.
  • The Jaguars added their third and fourth goals in the 64th and 65th minute by Martin Esquivel. 
  • Angel Gaitan looked to get the RedHawks on the scoreboard but his shot attempt in the 76th minute was saved.
  • Avoine Lane also went on the attack a few minutes later but his shot was also saved.
  • Ramos recorded five more saves in the second half.

FINAL SCORE: Governors State 4, IU Northwest 0

  • IU Northwest will be back in action Saturday, October 2 as the RedHawks travel to Judson starting at 2:30 p.m. CT.
