EAST CHICAGO, Ind. — IU Northwest men's soccer sent its season out on a high note Wednesday, scoring four unanswered goals and posting a shutout in a 4-0 win over Governors State in the regular-season finale.
Damian Lopez got things started early, scoring in the fourth minute off an Alan Núñez assist to give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead. Carter Levesque and the IU Northwest defense made it stand up through the rest of the first half, with Levesque turning away shots from Diego Damian and Joan Gallardo to keep Governors State off the board.
The RedHawks turned it on in the second half. Núñez found the back of the net himself in the 50th minute, converting a Chase Beals assist to make it 2-0. Just over five minutes later, Eric Lopez got in on the scoring, finishing off an Ezekiel Mugisha assist to push the lead to 3-0. Luis Limones capped the outburst in the 60th minute, scoring unassisted to make it 4-0, a lead that would hold the rest of the way.
Levesque anchored the shutout for the first 64 minutes before giving way to Jackson Novak, who closed out the final stretch and helped preserve the clean sheet. Between the two goalkeepers, IU Northwest finished with 10 total saves on the afternoon, with Governors State goalkeeper Ronaldo Blancas also busy at the other end, making six saves.
The RedHawks' four different goal scorers and balanced attack were a fitting way to close the book on the season, with IU Northwest finishing with 11 shots to Governors State's 14 but making the most of its chances in front of goal.
