EAST CHICAGO, Ind. — IU Northwest men's soccer honored four seniors before kickoff Saturday, and one of them delivered in the moment, as Luis Limones converted a penalty kick in the 21st minute to help the RedHawks salvage a 1-1 tie with Judson (Ill.) on Senior Day.
Prior to the match, IU Northwest celebrated seniors Cesar Amaya, Luis Limones, Gavin Niebel and Alan Núñez for their contributions to the program.
Judson struck first, with Mateo Vadora converting a penalty kick of his own in the seventh minute to put the visitors ahead, 1-0. The RedHawks answered less than 14 minutes later, as Limones stepped up and buried a penalty kick in the 21st minute to level the score at 1-1, a scoreline that would hold the rest of the way.
Carter Levesque was a wall in goal down the stretch, finishing with nine saves to preserve the tie, turning away repeated chances from Vadora, Noah Rehm and Juan Mieres in the second half as Judson pushed for a go-ahead goal. IU Northwest also generated pressure of its own, with Tye Adams and Gavin Niebel testing Judson goalkeeper Ivan Dominguez with headers, while Limones and Marcos Talavera combined for a handful of second-half looks that kept Judson's defense honest.
The RedHawks out-shot Judson 17-11 on the afternoon, with Limones leading the way with four shots, but neither side could find a second goal as the match ended level.
IU Northwest returns home Wednesday, Oct. 28, to host Governors State University in East Chicago, Ind. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CDT.
