Men's Basketball Unable to Hang On Against Roosevelt Wednesday

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. -- The IU Northwest men's basketball team was not able to hang onto their first half lead as Roosevelt came storming back and won the contest 76-62 at the Athletic and Recreation Center Wednesday.

HALF BREAKDOWN

FIRST HALF (IU Northwest 40, Roosevelt 32)

  • Both teams went back-and-forth to start the game before Roosevelt pulled ahead 11-7. 
  • IU Northwest scored seven unanswered all by Jared Johnson to grab a 14-11 lead.
  • Both teams started exchanging lead changes and ties.
  • Roosevelt led 28-24 with 7:11 to play in the first half.
  • IU Northwest made a 10-0 run which started on a layup by Damond Crosby capped off by a three-pointer by Marshaud Watkins to give the RedHawks a 34-28 lead with under three minutes left in the half. 
  • Martrellian Gibson hit a three-pointer late in the half to help give the RedHawks a 40-32 lead at the break.

SECOND HALF (Roosevelt 44, IU Northwest 22)

  • The second half was all Roosevelt as the Lakers grabbed the lead early after scoring the first five out of six points. 
  • Larry Lynch was able to tie it at 47-all with 13:51 left in the game then Roosevelt took control the rest of the way.
  • The closest the RedHawks were able to get was five (57-52) then the Lakers went on a 10-0 run before Johnson hit a three-pointer.
  • Roosevelt ended up winning the game 76-62.

  • IU Northwest will be back in action Saturday, February 13 as the RedHawks host St. Ambrose starting at 3:30 p.m. CT.
