Richardson Breaks School Record; Men's Basketball Late Comeback Falls Short Against IUSB Wednesday

RGary, Ind. -- Senior Rashad Richardson passed Pete Trgovich III for the all-time leader in points for a career at Indiana Northwest as he scored 27 points but it was not enough as the Indiana South Bend Titans defeated the RedHawks, 87-84, at the Savannah Center, Wednesday.

IUSB led 12-2 in the first four minutes of the contest. The Titans had expanded their lead to as big as 17 (27-10) with 11:24 left in the half. 

Marshaud Watkins (Harvey, Ill.) hit a three-pointer to end the IUN drought in the first half. IUN went into the halftime break with some momentum as the Titans led the RedHawks 46-34. 

Nick Passino (Churubusco, Ind.) hit back-to-back jumpers and Martellian Gibson had a bucket which made it 46-40 IUSB with 17:52 to go in the game. After the Titans made it a 12-point game (65-53) with 12 minutes left, IUN fought their way back into the game.

Richardson gave IUN a 72-71 lead with over three minutes left with a huge bucket. Richardson also went to the line to tie the school record and break it all ine with 1,850 points.

IUSB fought back and took a 79-77 lead with 29 seconds left after splitting free throws. Gibson scored a huge clutch basket with 10 seconds left which sent the game to overtime.

The Titans had the upperhand in overtime as IUSB outscored IUN 8-5.

Richardson led all scorers tonight with 27 points. Watkins recorded 19 points and Gibson rounded out the IUN leaders wih 17 points.

IUN returns to action Saturday, February 1 as the RedHawks travel to Palos Heights, Illinois to take on Trinity Christian College. Game time is scheduled at 3 p.m. CT.
