Box Score Gary, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team against Robert Morris Wednesday. The Eagles (14-6, 9-5 CCAC) defeated the RedHawks (12-9, 8-5 CCAC), 84-74, at the Savannah Center, Wednesday.
Robert Morris caught fire early in the game as the Eagles led 15-6 in the beginning stages of the game. With RMU leading 20-11 with 13:21 left in the half.
IUN went on a 10-2 run capped off by a basket by Martellian Gibson (Rantoul, Ill.) to make it 22-21 RMU with 8:21 to play in the half. Chris Robinson (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) put the RedHawks back on top with a bucket which made it 29-27 with 4:31 left remaining in the half.
Richardson nailed a three-pointer which made it 36-33 RMU. The Eagles ended the half with a 11-3 run to go ahead 47-36 at the break.
The Eagles took total control of the second half of the game. RMU went up by 20 (62-42) for their biggest lead of the game with 15:17 remaining in the game.
IUN fought back and made it single digits after a basket by Richardson. The RedHawks made it as close as six (72-66) with 4:22 in the game.
The RedHawks could not recover as RMU went up 84-70 late in the contest. IUN had one last push to make it 84-74 but the Eagles ended up winning 84-74.
Richardson is getting closer on becoming IUN's all-time points leader as the senior recorded 29 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Richardson needs 30 more points to tie the record and 31 to pass it.
Gibson also had a huge night for the RedHawks as the junior scored 16 points and picked up four steals.
IUN will be back in action Saturday, January 25 as the RedHawks host St. Francis (Ill.) starting at 3 p.m. CT.
