Men's Soccer Drops Match To Saint Francis (Ill.) Wednesday

Crown Point, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest men's soccer team dropped their match against the University of St. Francis (Ill.) Wednesday.

The Fighting Saints (3-1-2) defeated the RedHawks (0-6), 5-0, at the Crown Point Sportsplex, Wednesday.

USF struck first after Anthony Marmolejo recieved the ball from Andres Castellanos and knocked in the back of the net to go ahead 1-0. 

Freshman Will Carroll (Griffith, Ind./Griffith) went on the attack and looked to tie the match but USF's goalkeeper was able to save the shot attempt.

Not even a minute later, the Fighting Saints extended their lead to 2-0 with another goal by Castellanos who recieved the ball from Hameed Soberu. 

St. Francis (Ill.) tried to score again but freshman Maxwell Higgins (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) was right there for the save. 

Freshman Cole Capps (Demotte, Ind./Kankakee Valley) broke free and had a scoring opportunity but his shot attempt went wide. 

Higgins was able to record three saves in a row before USF was able to find the back of the net with a goal by Brian Castillo to go ahead 3-0.

Freshman Oscar Magallanes (Griffith, Ind./Griffith) tried to sneak one in before the half but USF's goalie was right there for the save. The score would hold at 3-0 at half.

In the second half, Higgins held the Fighting Saints off the scoreboard for the first 36 minutes.  USF went ahead 4-0 after Marmeloejo secured a hat trick after scoring in the 81st minute. 

The Fighting Saints extended their lead in the 85th minute after Reuel Erastus-Obilo recieved the ball from Stefan Jakovljevic to go ahead 5-0.

 Freshman E.J. Salazar (Gary, Ind./Hammond Baptist) looked to avoid the shutout but his shot was off target.

IUN returns to the soccer field Saturday, September 14 as the RedHawks travel to Goshen College to take on the Maple Leafs at Ingold Athletic Complex starting at 6 p.m. CT.
